ISJR Conference 2021 – Online edition
Due to the global crisis and countermeasures being deployed to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the 18th International Society for Justice Research (ISJR) conference will take place online July 7-10, 2021.
As a global community dedicated to social justice, we want to do what is best for our society and our members, and also what is socially responsible and fair to others. In the current situation this includes avoiding unnecessary travel and large gatherings until the risks are reduced to an acceptable level.
The 18th biennial meeting of ISJR will take place online, in collaboration with Catolica-Lisbon School of Business & Economics, where the original face-to-face conference was scheduled to be held in 2020.
Before the conference was postponed in March 2020, the program committee had accepted 110 papers and 12 symposia for presentation. They hope to also receive a large number of quality submissions for the rescheduled conference, in response to the new call for papers (see below). In addition, for the 2021 online conference, poster submissions are also possible.
Individuals whose papers or symposia were accepted for presentation at the 2020 conference, before it was postponed to 2021, will be contacted individually and encouraged to resubmit.
Finally, in recognition of the financial challenges to many instutions in the current epidemic and in an effort to make participation in the online conference as broad and inclusive as possible, conference registration will be free for all current and paid up members of ISJR.

ISJR Conference 2021 - Doctoral Student Consortium
A Doctoral Student Consortium hosted by the International Society for Justice Research (ISJR) will be held on July 7, 2021, as part of the ISJR annual conference.
In line with the annual conference theme, “Exploring social justice: Terra firma and terra incognita”, the Doctoral Student Consortium is designed to ignite your creative spark by offering opportunities to meet social justice scholars, explore ideas, and co-create. Prepare to submit a proposal for the day’s Research Incubator and take up challenges during two on-demand sessions Callings and Careers and The New/Old World of Teaching.
The Research Incubator will run live, and attendees should plan to participate synchronously on July 7, 2021, for approximately 3 hours. On-demand materials will be made available to Consortium attendees from July 6 to July 8.
We invite doctoral students and postgraduate researchers to apply. Please share this information with anyone who may be interested in applying. Places are limited, and will be allocated on first come first served basis.
HOW TO APPLY
Please send a cv (including teaching experience) and a research proposal you would like to discuss and develop at the Doctoral Student Consortium by 21:00 (Lisbon time) on May 21, 2021 to contact@isjr2021.org. Please use “DC application” in your subject line.
Research proposals will address the following questions in less than 1,000 words (4-page, Times New Roman 12 point, double-spaced, excluding References):
1. What is your research question and why is it interesting/important?
2. What literatures and methodologies do you see as most relevant to your project? Provide 1-2 representative citations for each.
3. What help do you need to advance your project?
The Doctoral Student Consortium will run free of charge but please submit a reference/description/link to one interactive exercise that teaches something important about justice with your application (in the text of your email or as attachment).

ISJR 2021 Call for Papers
Exploring Justice: Terra Firma and Terra Incognita
Paper, poster, and symposium submissions are invited for the ISJR 2021 Conference. The 18th meeting of the International Society for Justice Research will take place online due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions.
The theme, Exploring Justice: Terra firma and terra incognita, is intended to encourage submissions investigating established areas of research as well as areas of research that are less explored. Basic and applied research relating to social justice is welcomed, from a range of disciplines.
Research that is more terra firma would tend to build on existing constructs, frameworks, models, and paradigms. It would frequently examine consequences of known types of social justice and use established methodologies. Terra firma topics could include timeless issues such as just world beliefs, social equality, ethical reasoning, and organizational justice, and a range of consequences of social justice.
Research that is more terra incognita is likely to focus on less explored topics, use novel methodologies, identify fresh perspectives and questions relating to social justice, and propose new antecedents of social justice. Terra incognita topics could include research exploring environmental, intergenerational, or ageist justice, or relating to neuroscience, physical and mental health, intersectional identity, or nudging justice. Social justice issues relating to the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic may also generate a range of promising terra incognita topics.
Of course, topics can introduce novel and unexplored aspects to familiar terrain, and extend solid foundations developed in one area to less explored territories. The key requirement is that papers contribute to our understanding of social justice issues, either by deepening our understanding in established areas or by extending and challenging existing approaches to social justice – or both.
Submission details
Scholars may submit individual papers, paper symposia (including 3-4 individual papers and a discussant), and posters. For papers, a maximum 500-word abstract is required. For symposia, a maximum 250-word overview abstract is required, plus maximum 250-word abstracts for each individual paper. For posters, a maximum 250-word abstract is required.
The program committee also welcomes proposals for innovative formats for sessions (such as panels, debates, visual exhibitions) that take advantage of the online format and increase opportunities and exchange. Please contact the Program Chair directly at david.patient@vlerick.com.

Doctoral students are invited to apply for participation in the doctoral student consortium and research incubator by sending a cv, and research proposal.
Online format, and registration fees waived for current ISJR members
In order to encourage broad participation, in the face of hardships experienced by many higher education institutions as a result of the covid-19 epidemic, registration fees for the 2021 ISJR Conference will be waived for current ISJR members. The 18th biennial meeting of ISJR will take place in July 2021 at Católica-Lisbon School of Business & Economics in Lisbon, Portugal. In addition to maintaining the same venue, so far as possible, the same registration fees, conference theme, housing arrangements, and submission and registration systems will be maintained.
This year we accepted 110 papers and 12 symposia for presentation. We hope to also receive a large number of quality submissions for the rescheduled conference, in response to a new call for papers.

Visitors to the website can already get most of the information they need, and are able to submit abstracts and register. Some content on the website is not yet complete (e.g., the page for the Doctoral Consortium), but the conference organizers are working to get it all up as soon as possible.
When you press Register and follow the links, you will be taken to a separate registration website where you can select registration type, make a payment, retrieve your invoice, and also find accommodation and optional excursions.

The conference organizing team apologizes for the delay, but they had some unexpected bureaucratic hold-ups at their end. I know that they’re putting in a great amount of effort, and the website will continue to be updated and fine-tuned.
